The Backyard They Weren't Sure They'd Use

Every homeowner who has ever considered an outdoor structure asks themselves the same question before signing anything: are we actually going to use this?

Phill and Gloria Martin asked it too.

They already had the makings of a great backyard. A pool. A covered patio. Plenty of room to gather. What they didn't have was a reason to be out there. Not in a Texas summer, anyway.

"Summers in Texas are really hot," they told us. "You hear about the heat dome. Well, we have a heat dome every year. Yesterday it was 105, 107 here. So it's just unbearable to try to sit outside and be in the Texas heat. We had this outdoor space that was not very usable."

So when the idea of a pergola came up, it came with real doubt attached.

"It was a concern to us to put the StruXure up because it's like, are we going to use it? We haven't been using our outdoor space."

That hesitation is more common than people think. Will it actually solve the problem it needs to? It's also exactly the moment Goodlux is built for.

Removing Every Excuse

A pergola doesn't solve a heat problem overnight. The process of getting there can plant its own doubts. HOA approval. City engineering questions. Permits. All the paperwork that turns a good idea into a logistics headache.

The Martins didn't have to touch any of it.

"Goodlux was with us all the way through the process, including getting approval from our HOA, taking care of the engineering questions the city had, and getting the permits that were necessary so we didn't have to chase all that down. They were right with us all the way through."

That's the part of the job that makes the difference between a backyard project that happens and one that doesn't.

Their Favorite Room Outside

Once the Goodlux process started, the doubt didn't last long.

"When it gets down to it, the quality is really in the build. Once we got introduced to the StruXure product and the Goodlux team, there was no question about that. You could tell that it was a really quality pergola that was going to hold up for many years."

Today, the space they weren't sure they'd use is the space they can't imagine the house without.

"We've been so pleasantly surprised. I think from the very beginning, I felt really confident in the Goodlux company and in the product, and I was really excited about just the possibilities that were going to be afforded by putting this pergola up."

It's also worth mentioning it's not just the StruXure they'd vouch for.

"I've seen just incredible integrity in the Goodlux team, and they always do what they say. That's really exciting to see a company that's emerging, that's creating wonderful product, and it makes you feel like suddenly you're their family."
